Swim and Dive bid farewell to Seniors

Banana Slugs swim well in final outing before Conference
UC Santa Cruz swimming dominated Simpson on Saturday in their final regular season meet.
It was the final home meet for a class that produced several school records and the backbone of a first-ever Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championship. The Seniors honored were Hannah Brazier, Megan Carrington, Sachiko Correa, Claire Cruse, Matthew Daxner, Heather Dollins, Joseph Guzman, Moth Kraemer, Elisabeth Lundgren, Mattie Lux, John Madden, Matthew Minshall, Akira Morita, Isabella Polena, Aly Roberts, Samuel Smith, Drake Southern and Maya Teaford.
Not only did the Seniors have an outstanding day, the underclassmen had several great performances.
"We had a great senior day, and final home meet," said head coach Matt Crawford. "Standouts included Gavin Jay winning the 1000 free in a season and lifetime best of 10:03.30, and Massimo Reyna taking the 500 free in a lifetime best of 4:42.78."
The diving team also did amazing with several new records.
"The real stars today were on the boards," Crawford said. "Sachiko punched her ticket to regionals with a second qualifying score on the 1m board, and a qualifying score and new school record on the 3m board. And Andrew Keidel broke the school record for the 11 dive list on the 1m board. We are now looking forward to conference."
The Banana Slugs next head to the PCSC Championships in two weeks at East Los Angeles College.
