Slug Rec Memberships
Join Slug Recreation at UC Santa Cruz and gain access to one of the most unique recreation environments in the University of California system. Nestled in the redwoods, our UC Santa Cruz Slug Recreation Membership provides access to Athletics & Recreation facilities and programs designed to support health, wellness, and community engagement. Memberships provide access to a variety of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities as well as group fitness programming available through Athletics & Recreation.
Membership Eligibility
Slug Recreation memberships are available to the following groups:
Students
- Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in at least one credit hour at UC Santa Cruz are eligible for student memberships.
Non-Student Members
- Faculty and Staff
- Retirees and Emeriti
- Alumni
- Affiliates
- Community Members
- Minors (Must follow age policies as described in the Membership & Facility Use Policies.)
Non-student memberships can be purchased online through the Slug Recreation membership portal, click on the ‘Purchase a Membership’ button below.
Non-Student Membership Pricing
The following membership options are available for Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Affiliates, and Community Members. Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable and may only be used by the individual who purchased them.

Summer Term Membership
Summer memberships may be available during the summer term and are typically prorated based on the date of purchase. Current summer pricing and eligibility information will be posted when available.
What Your Membership Includes
Slug Recreation memberships provide access to the following Athletics & Recreation facilities during operating hours:
- East Field House Complex
- West Field House
- Fitness Center
- 50-Meter Swimming Pool
- East Gym and Recreation Courts
- Tennis Courts
- Locker Rooms and Day-Use Lockers
Members also receive access to:
- Group Exercise (GX) classes including in-person and virtual sessions (registration required)
- Virtual on-demand workout video library led by UCSC instructors
- Recreation courts and outdoor activity spaces when available
Group Exercise Classes
Slug Recreation offers a variety of group fitness classes led by certified instructors. Group exercise class space is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis through pre-registration.
Classes may include:
- Strength Training
- Yoga
- HIIT
- Cardio Conditioning
- Mobility and Recovery
Members must pre-register for classes through the Slug Recreation portal. Please check in no later than 5 minutes after the class start time to retain their reserved spot.
Member Access Requirements
To enter Athletics & Recreation facilities, members must present one of the following:
- UC Santa Cruz Student ID
- Slug Recreation Membership Card
- Digital Member Barcode through the UC Santa Cruz Slugs mobile app
Members must scan their ID or barcode at the East Field House Complex entrance each time they enter the facility.
Facility Policies
All members must follow Athletics & Recreation Policies while using facilities. Key policies include:
- Proper athletic attire is required in recreation spaces
- Closed-toe athletic shoes must be worn in fitness areas
- Members must wipe down equipment after use
- Food and beverages are not permitted in most facilities (water allowed in spill-proof containers)
- Members must exit facilities at closing time
- Disruptive or unsafe behavior may result in loss of privileges
Athletics & Recreation staff reserves the right to refuse service or revoke facility access if policies are not followed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to bring my ID every time?
Yes. All members must scan their UC ID, membership card, or digital member barcode to enter facilities.
Are lockers available?
Yes. Day-use lockers are available at no cost. Long-term locker rentals are also available.
Can community members purchase memberships?
Yes. Community members are eligible for non-student memberships.
Are group exercise classes included?
Yes. Group exercise classes are included with membership but require advance registration.
