
Men finish second at PCSC, women place fifth

MONTEREY PARK - The UC Santa Cruz men and women finished in the same places as last year at the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships.
The women's team finished fifth overall, and the men were runner-up as a team. The men scored 801.5 points to be edged by Biola to the title by 24 points.
John Madden won his second Conference title in as many days by taking the 200 Backstroke in 1:48.79. He bettered his own school record by 1.41 seconds and made another B cut for the NCAA Championships.Madden was UC Santa Cruz's highest scorer at the meet with 57 total points, second among all the swimmers competing.
In the 100 Free, Drake Southern was fourth in 45.98. Briggs Cloutier finished seventh with a time of 46.96. Presley Golling was third in the 1650 Free in 16:21.28 and Adam Shaaban was fourth in 16:29.53. Judah Good (1:56.78) and Aaron Wu (1:58.26) were sixth and seventh in the 200 Fly.
On the women's side, school record holder Elisabeth Lundgren was third in the 200 Back with a time of 2:05.12. Maddy Gruender was 5th in 2:05.76. Marie Lucquet placed tenth in the 200 Breaststroke in 2:26.71,Â
Other standouts were Tereza Shea and Coralie Norenberg, who were 10th and 11th respectively in the 100 Free. Shea touched the wall in 52.52 with Norenberg just 0.02 seconds after. Overall, the women totaled 764 points, as Pepperdine repeated as Conference Champions.
The finale was the 400 Free Relay, where the Norenberg, Shea, Gruender and Emerald Kwang were fifth in 3:31.93, just 0.45 seconds from the school record. The men's quartet of Drake Southern, Cloutier, Massimo Reyna and Samuel Smith were second in 3:06.47.
