Swim and Dive in second after Day One of Slug Shootout

Both the UC Santa Cruz men and women are in second place after the first day of the Slug Shootout held at the East Pool.
A total of ten other schools are competing in the two-day season opener, the largest field in the event's history.
Highlights for the men include the 400 Medley relay quartet of Ethan Porter, Karsten Hsiao, Jude Robinson and Massimo Reyna finishing third in 3:34.13. Reyna was also fifth in the 200 Free in 1:45.31, while Hsiao was fifth in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:00.96
For the women, Coralie Norenberg won the 50 Free in 24.99. Honour Dufresne earned a third place finish in the 200 Free, while Brecken Theders was sixth.
Kaitlyn Armstrong, Zoe Gronert, Kirsten Boyle and Maddy Gruender were fifth in the 400 Medley in 4:05.09. Armstrong was fourth in the 100 Back in 1:00.85, newcomers Gabrielle Nguyen and Kirsten Boyle were fourth and fifth in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:10.46 and 1:10.77, and Boyle added a second place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.84.
Overall, the men have 248 points, trailing Fresno Pacific by 73 points. The women are 48 points behind Cal State East Bay with 297 points.
Day Two of the meet begins at 10:00am.
