Women beat Fresno Pacific and Concordia, men split
IRVINE- UC Santa Cruz finished a busy weekend against PCSC competition by swimming against Fresno Pacific and Concordia-Irvine on Saturday.
The women swept their competition and the men split, beating Fresno Pacific 137-47 and were edged by the host Eagles 96-88.
"The Slugs fought hard against another great opponent in Concordia on Saturday," said head coach Matt Crawford. "The women had another dominant performance, winning all but one event. Quincy Timmerman stepped up big to go back-to-back days with event wins in the 200 Breast and 200 IM. Vivi Raker did the same in the butterfly events. And Maddy Gruender took the 200 and 500 Freestyles on both days. Brecken Theders stepped up big, winning the 1650 and taking second in the 500 Free."
The women's team swept the 200 Medley and 400 Free relays, with Viviana Raker and Tereza Shea participating in both relays. Shea and Isobel Blue went 1-2 the 50 Free as well.
For the men, Presley Golling and Adam Shaaban went 1-2 in the 1650 Free. Other standouts included Ethan Porter and Brandon Le finishing the 100 Back in under 55 seconds to place first and second,  and Samuel Smith winning the 500 Free in 4:46.70. Le, Akira Morita and John Madden went 1-2-3 in the 200 Back.
"The men lost a close one in a meet that didn't have diving," Crawford said. "They fought hard against a strong conference rival who put together a great meet. Some of the more noteworthy swims were the backstroke trio of Akira Morita, Ethan, and Brandon dominating their events, and Presley winning the 1650 in dominant fashion. The fly group of Giovanni Wenzler, Aaron Wu, Judah Good and Victor Sowa also dominated their respective races. Overall, it was a good showing and gives us an idea of what to expect at PCSC."
The Banana Slugs finish the regular season when they return home to face Simpson for Senior Day next Saturday.
