Slugs Win Four Straight on the Road This Weekend

PORTLAND, Or. - The men's tennis team of UC Santa Cruz took on 4 different rivals in 3 different cities this past weekend. The Slugs dominated all of their matches, ending with a 4-0 record at the end of the weekend, and only dropping one point against Pacific University. Outstanding doubles and singles performances from Ben Wang, Hari Raghavan, and Peter Liang propelled the Slugs to fight through tough matches and long comebacks to return to Santa Cruz with a weekend full of wins.
ÂUC Santa Cruz 7, Puget Sound 0
The UC Santa Cruz men's tennis team delivered a flawless 7-0 sweep against the University of Puget Sound on April 2nd. The Banana Slugs set the tone early in doubles play, highlighted by decisive 6-2 victories from the No. 1 duo of Benjamin Wang and Rocco Melendez, as well as the No. 2 pairing of Gavin Sonntag and Caden Wong. Carrying the momentum into singles, UCSC dominated across the board. Hari Raghavan led the charge with a near-perfect 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot. Meanwhile, Adam Kahn showcased his resilience at No. 5, battling back from a first-set deficit to secure a hard-fought three-set win, capping off the definitive shutout for Santa Cruz.
UC Santa Cruz 7, Lewis & Clark College 0
UC Santa Cruz swept Lewis & Clark College in their second match of the day in a dominating fashion. No. 1 Ben Wang and Rocco Melendez won their first match of the day in a tight 7-6 match, allowing for a lead going into singles for UCSC after Gavin Sontag and Caden Wong won their doubles match 6-3. Gavin Sontag defeated his opponent in a long singles match. The rest of the Banana Slug singles players beat their adversaries with 2 set matches each, and Hari Raghavan displayed a crushing performance, winning both sets 6-1.
UC Santa Cruz 6, Pacific University 1
On April 3rd, UC Santa Cruz defeated Pacific University 6-1 in a strong all-around performance. The Banana Slugs bounced back after dropping the doubles point, with Caden Wong earning a comeback win 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 and Peter Liang battling through a tight match to win 4-6, 6-1, 10-8. Ben Wang also rallied after losing the first set to take his match 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, while Hari Raghavan delivered a clutch three-set victory 6-7, 7-5, 6-3. Gavin Sontag and Rocco Melendez added straight-set wins to secure the match, as UCSC showed resilience across the lineup to take control in singles.
UC Santa Cruz 4, Linfield University 0
UC Santa Cruz finished the weekend by sweeping Linfield in a dominant fashion on April 4th continuing their dominant streak of the weekend by defeating the Wildcats 4-0. The Banana Slugs controlled singles play throughout the match, with Ben Wang winning 6-1, 6-2, Rocco Melendez cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 victory, Hari Raghavan adding another straight-set win at 6-3, 6-1, and Peter Liang delivering the most dominant performance of the day with a crushing 6-0, 6-0 sweep. UCSC also held the advantage in the unfinished matches, with Gavin Sontag leading 6-2, 6-5 and Caden Wong ahead 6-3, 6-5, showing the Banana Slugs had control across the full lineup.
