Slugs Drop No. 40 Occidental and Cabrillo in Monday Doubleheader

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. - The UC Santa Cruz men's tennis team took home the win against No. 40
Occidental 5-2 on Monday morning. In the first game of a doubleheader, the Slugs set the tone
early with a 2-1 win in doubles. They would go on to seal the deal in the singles, winning on four
of the six courts. The Slugs later earned a convincing 7-0 victory over Cabrillo to go 2-0 on the day.

UC Santa Cruz 5, Occidental 2
Doubles:
        ? No.1 Ben Wang and Rocco Melendez won their first match of the day, 6-3.
        ? No. 2 Gavin Sontag and Peter Liang found similar success in their match, also finishing
        the set 6-3.
        ? Lastly, No.3 Spencer Hidas and Caden Wong lost a close set 6-4

Singles
        ? On The Singles side, No.3 Rocco Melendez set the tone with a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory.
        ? Following that, No.2 Gavin Sontag won 6-3, 6-3.
        ? No.1 Benjamin Wang fell in a dramatic 2 sets. The tiebreaking 2nd set would go
            Occidental's way 7-6.
        ? No.6 Hari Raghavan continued the success, winning 6-4, 6-2.
        ? Over at court 5, Peter Liang lost 6-4, 6-3.
        ? Lastly, No.4 Caden Wong came back in both of his sets to win 7-5, 6-4 and seal the win
            for the Slugs.

UC Santa Cruz 7, Cabrillo 0
Doubles:

Caden Wong and Max Krijanovski started the afternoon with a 6-2 victory on court three while Peter Liang and Gavin Sontag earned a 6-1 victory at No. 2.
Benjamin Wang and Rocco Melendez wrapped things up with a clean 6-0 victory as UCSC took home the doubles point.

Singles:

The Banana Slugs soared through singles with Darren Ignatius earning a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 with Adam Kahn following quickly behind with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
Hari Raghavan picked up the clean 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 with Peter Liang earning a 7-6, 6-1 victory, winning the tie breaker 7-2 in set one.
Rocco Melendez won a three set match, winning set one 6-0 before falling 6-3 in set two and later winning 1-0 with a 10-8 match tiebreaker.
Gavin Sontag finished the day for UCSC with a 6-4, 7-6 victory at No. 1.
