SALISBURY, Md. - The UC Santa Cruz women's tennis team closed out its regular season with a commanding 6–1 victory over Salisbury University on Thursday in Maryland. The Banana Slugs showcased their depth and determination, winning the doubles point and securing five of six singles matches to cap off the season on a high note before beginning their quest for a Coast-To-Coast Conference Title this weekend at Christopher Newport University.
How It Happened
UC Santa Cruz took control early by winning all three doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of
Sara Beckman and
Natalie Sprenger delivered a solid performance winning 6-4, while the No. 2 team of
Chloe Wu and
Melody Ghaffari earned a 6-2 victory. The No. 3 team of
Meghana Damojipurapu and
Sweden Van Houten earned a 6-0 to secure the doubles sweep for UCSC.
In singles play, the Slugs continued their momentum.
Sara Beckman led the charge at the No. 1 spot, securing a 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 hard fought win.
Meghana Damojipurapu followed suit at No. 2 with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win.
Natalie Sprenger earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4 while
Chloe Wu and
Sweden Van Houten rounded out the singles wins at No. 5 and No. 6, taking their matches 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0.
With this victory, UC Santa Cruz concludes its regular season on a strong note and turns its attention to the upcoming Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) tournament. The Slugs will face the University of Mary Washington in the semifinals on Saturday, May 3. The team aims to carry this momentum into the postseason as they vie for the conference title.
