
Banana Slugs finish seventh in Arizona

PEORIA, AZ - Facing off against three Top-Ten teams, the No. 25/26 UC Santa Cruz golf team continued their Spring with a seventh-place finish at the Westbrook at the Lakes Invite in Arizona.
The Banana Slugs shot six strokes better on the second day, finishing with a team score of 622 (314-308). Alyssa Yee and Charlotte Ruhl finished tied for 21st, with both shooting a 12-over 154 over the two days.
Gillian Mendoza shot a 14-over 156 to finish 29th. Christina Oh shot a 158 in her second-ever college tournament to place 31st. Mikaela Paracuelles shot a 167.
Competing as an individual, Riley Birch was 30th (157) after improving by nine strokes in the second round.
Fourth-ranked George Fox won the team title with a score of 596, three strokes better than second-placed Redlands. Lexi Onsrud of Illinois Wesleyan shot a 140 over two days to win the individual crown.
The Banana Slugs return to the Central Coast for their next event when they host their Spring Invite March 26-27 at Pacific Grove.
