
Indoor Track debuts with amazing showing in Oregon

PORTLAND, OR - UC Santa Cruz's indoor Track and Field program debuted this past weekend at the Portland Invite.
The sprint and throwing sessions were held Saturday morning at George Fox University's complex in Newberg, before a two-hour jaunt north to compete in the evening at the University of Portland's Chiles Center.
Standouts included Amaya Cummins, who opened her Banana Slug career taking third place in the 60 meter dash by crossing the line in 8:08 seconds. Three other UC Santa Cruz women made the 60 Final:Â Chloe Solomua was sixth in 8:39, Amelia Tremain (8.43) was seventh, and Zoe Johnson was eighth (8.52). Tremain was also fifth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.99.
Shea Wissler was runner-up in the men's 60 Hurdles in 9.21. Daniel Browne was fifth in 13.28.
In the Portland evening session, Elana Muzzy continued her great form from Cross Country season by winning the Mile in 5:13.61. Riley Martel-Phillips (5:17.58) and Ash Baudin (5:18.11) were third and fourth respectively.
Holden Spencer was the top male Miler, finishing seventh in 4:17.29. Eric Anderson was eleventh in 4:20.25, followed by Walter Teitelbaum 0.30 seconds later. Brett Bailey was 18th in 4:26.50.
The day ended with the 4x400 relays. The women's quartet of Sophia Caldwell, Solomua, Arabella Edler and Hana Yamamoto finished as the top Division III team and third overall in 4:18.52.
For the men, Ethan Bizzack, Rowan Davis, Carson Nagel, and Cole Pena placed third as well in 3:33.34, right behind the co-host Bruins and Pilots and ahead of Portland State, Lewis & Clark, and Pacific (OR.)
The indoor Slugs next compete for more hardware when they travel in two weeks to Virginia for the Coast-To-Coast Championship.
