Swim teams have great starts to open 2022 PCSC Championships

ST GEORGE, UTAH -Â Fast times and school records were the order of the day as the Banana Slug Swimming and Diving squads had a great day to begin the 2022 Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference Championships.
The men took a first-day lead with 115 points while the women were in 2nd with 184, just behind Division I Pepperdine.
The men's team got off to a big splash with school record holder Samuel Smith winning the 1000 yard Freestyle in 9:38.00. Presley Golling was 4.09 seconds behind to earn second, and fellow PCSC debutant Adam Shaaban placed fifth in 9:49.17.
Drake Southern, Ethan Porter, John Madden and Smith combined to place third in the 800 Free Relay in 6:53.36.Â
For the women, the 200 Medley Relay team of Elisabeth Lundgren, Megan Deevy, Viviana Raker and Isobel Blue placed third in 1:46.38. Their time broke the school record that had stood since 2005 by 1.96 seconds. The 800 Free Relay quartet of Maddy Gruender, Raker, Aly Roberts and Emerald Kwang finished fourth in 7:44.59.
Brecken Theders placed fourth in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:41.17.
The meet continues Thursday beginning at 8:30 am Pacific, starting with the Men's and Women's 500 Free.
