Oaks Sweep Banana Slugs

ATHERTON (2-12) – After being in Wisconsin last weekend, UC Santa Cruz returned to California as they took on NAIA opponent Menlo College in Atherton. The Oaks defeated the Banana Slugs 3-0.
In the first set, the Oaks started the set on a 17-7 run capped by a Josh Sullivan kill. The Oaks would win the first set 25-16 and took a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, the Oaks would start the set on a 18-9 run capped by a Konrad Stoklosinski kill. The Banana Slugs rallied and would come as close as four points twice; the second occasion at 22-18 on an attack error by the Oaks. The Oaks won the second set 25-19 for a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Oaks started the third set on a 15-8 run before the Banana Slugs would come as close as five at 17-12 on a Maxwell Mednick kill. The Oaks answered with a 8-4 run to win the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0.

For UC Santa Cruz, Mednick had a match-high nine kills, his career high. Mednick also led the Banana Slugs with eleven digs. Chicory Roth had twenty-three assists for UC Santa Cruz in his first outing as setter.
Christian Menchaca had a match-high fifteen digs apiece for the Oaks (11-1).and Stoklosinski had nine kills.
For the match, UC Santa Cruz had a .120 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the first set at .179 while Menlo had a .315 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the first set at .522.

The next match for the Banana Slugs will be Friday night as they take on NCAA Division I member UC San Diego in La Jolla on ESPN+.
