Slugs Fall to Cal Lutheran 0-3

THOUSAND OAKS, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's volleyball team fell to Cal Lutheran 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) on Saturday afternoon at Gilbert Arena. Riley Norman led the offense with 11 kills and seven digs while Evan Erickson added seven kills hitting .364. Kyle Ownbey contributed six kills on a .357 clip. The Banana Slugs drop to 16-8 on the season and will look for revenge when they host Cal Lutheran on Friday, April 11 at West Field House.
How It Happened
Set 1: The Banana Slugs came out strong, hitting .364 as a team with 12 kills. Riley Norman and Evan Erickson combined for seven kills, and Kyle Ownbey added a block solo, but Cal Lutheran edged UCSC down the stretch to take the opener.
Set 2: UCSC struggled offensively, hitting just .091 with 10 errors on 44 swings. Norman led the way with five kills, and Drake Harris added three kills and two digs, but the Kingsmen pulled away for a 25-20 win
Set 3: The Banana Slugs battled in the third but couldn't complete the comeback, hitting .167 with 10 kills. Erickson contributed three kills and Ownbey added two as Cal Lutheran closed it out to complete the sweep.
Marcus Donchuanchom anchored the defense with eight digs, and Logan Taylor dished out 25 assists. Nick Nayak added three kills off the bench.
