Men's Volleyball hits .146 against second Division I opponent this year
LA JOLLA (2-18) – UC Santa Cruz traveled to Southern California to take on NCAA Division I member UC San Diego in La Jolla, where theTritons swept the Banana Slugs 3-0.

In the first set, the Tritons started the set on an 8-4 spurt capped by a Matthew Lim kill. The Banana Slugs would get back into the set and took the lead at 10-9 before the Tritons went on a 12-6 run to take the lead for good at 21-16. The Tritons won the first set 25-20 and took a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, the two teams traded points, and the lead, for the first twenty-two serves. The Tritons would take the lead for good, at 12-11, and won the second set 25-21 for a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, the two teams would again trade points for the first twenty-two serves. The Tritons would take the lead for good at 12-11 on a Nick Rigo kill. The Tritons would win the third set 25-20 to win the match.

For UC Santa Cruz, Zac Pittard had nine kills and for UC San Diego, Rigo had twelve kills. Chicory Roth had nineteen assists for UC Santa Cruz and Cinjun Coe led the Banana Slugs with eight digs.
Matt Palma had a match-high twelve digs for the Tritons.

For the match, UC Santa Cruz had a .146 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the first set at .240 while UC San Diego had a .348 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the first set at .435.

The next matches for the Banana Slugs will be Friday March 11th when they return to Southern California for the Cal-Lu-Fornia Tournament hosted by California Lutheran University. The Banana Slugs will take on Baldwin-Wallace University at noon and Aurora University at 3 pm.
