Mendoza is second, Banana Slugs are third at ASC Preview

GRANBURY, TEXAS -Â This week in Texas, the UC Santa Cruz women's golf team renewed acquaintances with their American Southwest Conference counterparts.
Gillian Mendoza finished runner-up at the Conference Preview hosted at the Nutcracker Golf Course, the site for next April's ASC Championship. UC Santa Cruz finished 3rd as a team with a score of 628. No. 8 UT-Dallas finished first with a score of 610, thirteen strokes better than 21st-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor and 18 strokes better than the Banana Slugs.

Mendoza improved by four stokes from Monday's first round to finish at four-over 148. Mendoza had the best score of any golfer on Tuesday, finishing at par with 72, including three birdies on the Back Nine.
"I was glad to put up two solid scores. I definitely felt like I left a few shots out there, but as always, there's room for improvement," said Mendoza. Â
Riley Birch was 10th out of the 40 golfers with a 13-over 157. Alyssa Yee was 11th one stroke behind her. Mikaela Paracuelles was 24th with a 26-over 170. First Year Shalini Satish shot an 86 each day to finish 28th with 172 in her college debut.
The Banana Slugs finished the Fall portion of their schedule facing some of the country's top teams and will regroup for their next tournament in March.
"This fall season was definitely one to remember," explained Mendoza. "We recently came back from a three-week stretch of tournaments- Southern California to Florida and then to Massachusetts. It was such a fun experience playing in all these events and I am so grateful toward Coach Pera for always giving us these opportunities to play and travel across the country."
