Slugs Open Season With a Second Place Tie in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif – The UC Santa Cruz women's golf team finished in a tie for second place at the California State Intercollegiate Golf Tournament hosted by California Lutheran University to debut their 2026 season. The Banana Slugs shot +9 overall, shooting even after day one of play, and +9 on day two to finish in a tie with No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer for second behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Samantha Shaw led the way, finishing in a three-way tie for first place in the tournament with a total score of -3 featuring eight birdies in her two days. Shaw shot 72 on day one and had a clutch day two score of 69 to help shoot her up to the leading spot. Shaw's performance earned her the Week Two Golfer of the Week in the American Southwest Conference.

Olivia Lew swung a consistent tournament to score +1 overall and finish in 6th place. The junior shot an even score of 72 on day one, and 73 on day two to end her first tournament of the season. Adeline Truong rounded out the Banana Slugs in the top-ten with a score of +5 and a 9th place finish.

After round one, UC Santa Cruz shot an even 72, putting themselves six strokes from CMS in the lead, and seven strokes in front of Pomona-Pitzer. Day two brought the pressure for the Banana Slugs as they sung a +9 to finish in a tie for second place in the tournament. Up next, UCSC women's golf will play in the Williams Invitational in Williamstown, MA.
