LA MIRADA- Gearing up for the postseason, UC Santa Cruz had a big day swimming against Biola University to open their weekend adventure in southern California.
The women outscored Biola 162-99, and in a battle of the last two PCSC Champions, the men won 151-111.
"The Banana Slugs raced really well coming off a tough travel day and facing a very tough opponent," said head coach Matt Crawford.
The women won 10 of 16 events. Viviana Raker swept the 100 and 200 Butterfly as well as being part of the 400 Medley relay that won by seven seconds. Quincy Timmerman won the 200 Individual Medley, while Isobel Blue and Tereza Shea went 1-2 in both the 50 and 100 Free.
The men also took 10 of 16 events. Joel Akey swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. Samuel Smith and Adam Shaaban went 1-2 in the 500 Free, and Brandon Le swept the 100 and 200 Backstroke.
"Vivi  battled hard in the fly events, Quincy Timmerman capped the individual racing with a win in the 200 IM against a very good swimmer. Brandon Le had a breakout meet, punctuated with a big win in the 200 back," Crawford said.
"I'm proud of the toughness they've showed and the way they get up for in-season meets."
The Banana Slugs continue the weekend when they face Concordia and Fresno Pacific Saturday in Irvine.
