Banana Slugs finish So-Cal week with fourth place finish in Rancho Mirage

Mendoza finishes tied for 6th against loaded field
 RANCHO MIRAGE- Junior Gillian Mendoza finished tied for sixth as No. 22 UC Santa Cruz finished 4th out of six teams at the Redlands Invite in Rancho Mirage.
The Banana Slugs competed against the No. 6, No. 12, and No. 16 teams in the nation at the S Club on Frank Sinatra Drive. The event closed a stacked first week in southern California after the Banana Slugs also competed in Ventura to start the season.
Mendoza shot a 3-over-147 in the two day event. Alyssa Yee was 17th, shooting 77 both days for a 154. Newcomer Charlotte Ruhl improved by three strokes on Day Two to finish 22nd with a 159, while Mara Anunciacion took nine strokes off her score to score 163, good for 32nd. Riley Birch rounded out the Slug contingent with a 166 for 34th place.
Overall, UC Santa Cruz took three shots off their first round score, finishing with a 617 (310-307). Claremont Mudd Scripps won the team event, paced by medalist Stella Cheng (5-under-139) and third place Irene Jun (1-under-143).
The Banana Slugs return to the north for a rare home dual on Tuesday when they host Division II Cal State Monterey Bay at Pasatiempo.
