VENTURA - Gillian Mendoza's ninth-place finish led UC Santa Cruz to sixth place out of eleven schools at the season-opening CA State Intercollegiate hosted by Cal Lutheran.
The Banana Slugs shot a 603 team score over the two rounds. The team dropped their score by 13 strokes on the second day, shooting a 295. It was the lowest team round in program history and second-sub 300 round of the calendar year after UCSC shot 299 last March at the Redlands Invitational.

The Banana Slugs stay in southern California this week and head to Palm Desert this weekend for the Redlands Invite.
