Banana Slugs Athletics had one more big academic honor to close out the 2020-21 school year, as 126 UC Santa Cruz student-athletes over nine sports were named to the Coast-to-Coast Conference All Academic team.
Student-athletes in one or more C2C championship sports that attained a 3.20 grade point average GPA for the academic year earned a spot on the All-Academic list.Â
"We are incredibly proud of our student-athletes for their perseverance during particularly challenging times this past academic year, and their dedication to excellence in their field of study," said Director of Athletics Susan Harriman. "We also thank the team of coaches, athletics staff and UC Santa Cruz faculty whose individual and collective contributions to student success helped make these latest student athlete accolades possible. Our student-athletes have given Banana Slugs everywhere incredibly important reasons to be proud."
The 126 student-athletes comprises 70% of UCSC rosters for C2C teams, well above the 53.4% average among the ten member schools' athletic teams. The Banana Slugs' Women's tennis had 89% of their team members on the C2C team (8 of 9).
"We are thrilled with the performance of these student athletes which really reflects the entire cohort," said Faculty Athletic Representative J. Xavier Prochaska. "In fact the average GPA of the over 250 student athletes increased by nearly 1/10 point to 3.39, a tremendous achievement."
The C2C Academic list meant that 160 Banana Slugs made Academic All Conference this year.Â
