Incoming Freshman Tanner Rowland was announced as one of the recipients of the United States Tennis Association's Tisdel Scholarship.
Rowland, a graduate of Riverside Poly High School, earned $10,000 over her four years starting this Fall. The Tisdel Scholarship honors former USTA Board member Donald Lawson Tisdel (1934-2017). They are awarded annually to 20-25 high school seniors who have excelled academically, demonstrated community service and participated in an organized tennis program such as National Junior Tennis and Learning.
"Tennis is such an important part of my life which is why this scholarship is such an honor to me," Rowland said. "Tennis has taught me so much. I will be grateful for this scholarship and those life lessons for the rest of my life."
"She is a very accomplished young person and I'm so proud of her for being only 1 of 2 players in the USTA SoCal section to win this scholarship," said head coach Amy Jensen. "I can't wait to officially welcome Tanner to UC Santa Cruz, get her in some Slug Gear, and see what she can do out on the courts!"
