
UC Santa Cruz Boasts Strong Performances at Bryan Clay and Hartnell

SALINAS, Ca. – On Saturday April 18th, UC Santa Cruz's men and women's track and field team made the trip to Salinas to participate in the Gary Shaw Last Chance Meet hosted by Hartnell College. The Banana Slugs also sent a crew down to Azusa Pacific University to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

- 100 Meter Hurdles: Olivia Marino and Eliza Zheng started the race hand in hand, Olivia placed 4th with a 15.90 second race, and Eliza followed in 6th with a 16.76 second time.
- 4 x 100 Meter Relay: Camille Anneet, Skyla Jones, Kalee Herd, and Sandrine Martinez placed 4th with a 50.46 second relay.
- 400 Meter: Mae Stafford led the Slugs in at 4th place with a 1:00.03 time, followed in line by, Varsha Aravindhan (1:02.84), Sandrine Martinez (1:03.67), and Esther Kim brought up the rear in 8th, running 1:05.28 minutes.
- 100 Meter: Kalee Herd placed 11th with a 13.27 second race.
- 400 Meter Hurdles: Nia Kim blew over the finish line with a 1:05.62 minute race, ending at first and Alicia Dasalla came in 3rd with a 1:11.29 minute race.
- 200 Meter: Camille Anneet came in 3rd, running 25.98 seconds, Skyla Jones followed in 5th with 26.34 seconds. Kalee Herd came in 9th with a 26.51 second race.
- 800 Meter: Melody Chiu took 1st place with a time of 2:20.93 seconds. Marianne Chuang followed in 2nd at 2:24.51 seconds, while Mira Sidhu added another strong finish in 4th with 2:29.00 seconds. Rosey Harris rounded out the UCSC effort, placing 5th in 2:29.73 seconds.
- 1500 Meter: Lucia Muthu claimed 1st place in 4:50.13 minutes. Fiona Wolf followed in 2nd with a time of 4:52.76, while Cheryl Chuang secured 3rd in 4:58.28. Hope Martin added another top-five finish for UCSC, placing 5th in 5:03.02.Â
- Hammer Throw: Whitney Porter placed 5th with a throw of 27.94 meters.
- Pole Vault: Allyson Petersen jumped 3.05 meters to come in 3rd despite windy conditions.
- Long Jump: Olivia Marino flew into 4th with a 4.95 meter jump. Eliza Zheng jumped 4.87 for 6th, and Regan Mulloy came in 8th with a 4.82 meter jump
- Javelin: Kailey Leba came out on top, throwing 34.95 meters for 1st place. Olly Gordon placed 3rd with a 31.20 meter throw and Whitney Porter threw 26.62 meters for 7th place.
- Shot Put: Olly Gordon claims 1st with a throw of 11.24 meters, followed by Semalu Hernandez throwing 10.34 meters to place 2nd. Triple Jump: Regan Mulloy landed in 5th place, jumping 10.14 meters and Celine Castaneda jumped 9.94 meters to secure 7th.
- High Jump: Olivia Marino jumped 1.6 meters and landed herself a 1st place finish. Celine Castaneda and Eliza Zheng placed 2nd and 3rd, both with jumps of 1.5 meters. Regan Mulloy placed 7th with a 1.45 meter jump.
- Discus: Semalu Hernandez placed 5th, throwing 33.43 meters and Whitney Porter came in at 6th with a throw of 32.38 meters. Olly Gordon placed 8th with a throw of 25.83 meters.

- 110 Meter Hurdles: Erik Dodge propelled himself into 7th place with a 16.30 second race, and was closely followed in by Shriyan Manjrekar who placed 9th, running 16.73 seconds.
- 4 x 100 Meter Relay: Arthur Gainant, Ricky Murray, Shriyan Manjrekar, and Erik Dodge ran a combined 44.04 second relay to place 1st.
- 400 Meter: Matthew D. Riffle crossed the line to place 4th with a 50.37 second race, followed by Taran Grewal in 6th with 51.12 seconds; Ethan Hackett came in 17th at 54.12 seconds.
- 400 Meter Hurdles: Shriyan Manjrekar came in 3rd, running 56.67 and was followed by Ricky Murray, who ran a 58.78 second to place 6th.
- 3000 Meter Stepplechase: Andrew Mysliwiec splashed into 1st place with a time of 9:45.15 minutes, followed by Alex Wille placing 3rd with 9:58.55 minute time; Ian Lee brought in the rear for UCSC with a 10:16.31 minute race.
- 200 Meter: Arthur Gainant landed 2nd with a speedy 21.74 second race.
- 800 Meter: Matthew D. Riffle and Caleb J. Kipp led the charge placing 1st and second with 1:56.83 and 1:57.66 minutes respectively. Nathan Leroy ran 2:05.94 minutes to place 8th closely followed by Brennen Rickey at 9th with a 2:06.46 minute race.
- 1500 Meter: Gilbert Fillat led the way for UC Santa Cruz with a 1st place finish in 4:02.36 minutes. Sasha Tanasychuk followed close behind in 4th with a time of 4:06.21, while Eduardo Palma placed 5th in 4:08.23. Liam Manley added an 11th place finish in 4:14.37, Kelvin Chan ran 4:16.63 for 12th, and Sid Iyer in 19th with a time of 4:26.91.
- 5000 Meter: David Olmo Marchal won the race in 15:35.28 minutes, followed by Desi Herrerias in 2nd at 15:41.40 minutes. Sammy Green added another strong finish for UCSC, placing 5th with a time of 16:19.65 minutes.
Field
- Hammer Throw: Chris Andrews hurled a 29.52 meter throw to secure a spot at 10th.
- Javelin: Chris Andrews threw 39.56 meters for 2nd, and Jameson Powell came in at 4th with a 36.97 meter throw.
- Long Jump: Securing 14th place, Tyler Vo jumped 5.78 meters.
- Pole Vault: Erik Dodge propelled himself to 4th place with a jump of 4.35 meters.
- Discus: Jameson Powell makes an appearance at 3rd place, throwing 39.46 meters while Chris Andrews throws 35.93 meters for 7th place. Jeremy Hall comes in 17th throwing 31.53 meters.
- Triple Jump: Oliver Berkowitz came in 6th with a 12.42 meter triple jump.
- Shot Put: Chris Andrews threw 12.69 meters to place 2nd, Jeremy Hall placed 8th and 12th with a throw of 11.1 meters and Jameson Powell came in 12th with a 10.49 meter throw.
- High Jump: Oliver Berkowitz placed 7th with a 1.75 meter jump.
Bryan Clay Invitational Highlights
- 1500 Meters: Elena Stanciu finished with a time of 4:27.42 minutes to end in 20th place.
- 5000 Meters: Helena Janku ran a 17:17.39 minute race to place 38th.
- 400 Meters: Levi Laden ran 49 seconds flat to place 48th
- 800 Meters: Sean Conley placed 38th with a time of 1:53.02 minutes and Caeden Gardner came in at 53rd with a time of 1:54.09 minutes.
- 1500 Meters: Graeme Maclean placed 137th with a sub 4 minute time of 3:53.59 minutes.
- 5000 Meters: Luke Holland led the charge with a 14:19.37 to take 63rd in the invitational heat. Viktor Kieturakis ran 14:46.66 minutes to place 41st and was closely followed by Camden Jaureguy at 44th who ran 14:47.38 minutes.
