
Nia Kim and Evan Hofstetter Drop Top Five Marks In Heptathlon and Decathlon

AZUSA, Ca. – UC Santa Cruz Men and Women's multi event athletes Nia Kim and Evan Hofstetter competed at the Bryan Clay invitational on April 9-10th, hot on the momentum gained
from strong performances at NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Finals. Nia Kim ended the two day competition with a total of 4,836 points and a 5th place finish in women's heptathlon. Evan
placed first overall bringing in 6,894 points for his first outdoor decathlon this season.

Nia Kim – Heptathlon
Nia Kim made her first outdoor appearance for the UCSC Banana slugs in the Heptathlon, placing first in multiple events. Nia Kim ran 14.37 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles to get things started with 927 points before clearing 1.62m in high jump and throwing 9.20m in shot put. Kim closed out day one with a 26.19 in the 200, ending day one with 2,944 points. On day two, Kim opened the day with a 5.74m long jump before throwing 23.33m in javelin. Kim closed out the meet with a 2:24.00 in the 800m finishing in fifth place with 4,836 points. Kim's outdoor debut featured many impressive national marks including the 10th fastest hurdle time this year, the sixth best long jump in the country, and the fourth best heptathlon score in the country.

Evan Hofstetter - Decathlon
Fresh off his All-American performance at the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships last month, Evan Hofstetter brought the momentum to Bryan Clay, opening the Decathlon
with a 10.74 second 100 meter sprint. Hofstetter followed up the strong start with a 7.16m jump in long jump before throwing 10.77m in shot put. Hofstetter cleared 1.83m in high jump and later dropped a blistering 48.13 second 400m to end the day with 3,859 points. Hofstetter picked up right where he left off for day two, going sub 17 in the 110m hurdles with a 16.98s race. In the discus, he threw 33.90m and jumped 3.90m in pole vault. Hofstetter later threw 42.08m in javelin before flying to the finish line in the 1500m with a time of 4:21.02 to win the meet with 6894 points. Impressively, Hofstetter's long jump stands as the ninth best jump in NCAA Division III while his decathlon score is the third best mark in the country. Â
