
Men's Tennis Falls to No. 4 CMS and Ventura in SoCal Road Contests

CLAREMONT, Ca. - The UC Santa Cruz men's tennis team fell to No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 7-0 on Saturday afternoon. Later in the evening, the Banana Slugs fell to Ventura 6-1 to conclude the weekend. Benjamin Wang picked up the lone set win on the day, earning a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 victory at the No. 1 spot against Ventura. The Banana Slugs are now 1-4 on the young season and will host No. 22 Sewanee, No. 40 Occidental, and Cabrillo on March 7th and 9th.Â

- The Slugs fought hard in their No. 1 doubles match with Melendez and Wang falling 6-3. Wong and Sontag battled at No. 2 but fell 7-5 in the closest doubles match of the day. Raghavan and Liang fell 6-4 at No. 3 as CMS secured the doubles point.
- Wang fell 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot while Sonntag dropped a 6-2, 6-0 game at No. 2. Match No. 3 saw Melendez drop two sets 6-4, 6-4.
- Raghavan fell 6-2 in the first set and lost 7-6 in the second set after a tough fight at No. 4.
- Liang dropped a pair of 6-4 sets at No. 5 while Kahn fell 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 match.

Doubles
- Melendez and Wang earned a well fought 6-3 victory at No. 1 while Sonntag and Wong fell 6-1 at No. 2.
- Liang and Raghavan also dropped 6-1 at No. 3.
- Wang battled at No. 1 singles, falling in the first set 6-2 and proceeding to come back 7-5 and 1-0 to secure the win.Â
- Sonntag fell short 6-3 in set one and lost a tough 2nd set battle 7-6 at No.2 while Match No. 3 saw Melendez take an unfortunate 7-5 and 6-3 loss.
- Raghavan took a 6-0 and 6-4 loss at No.4 while Wong split sets at No. 5 losing 6-1 in set one and fighting back to win 6-2 for set two, ultimately falling short 6-1 in set three.
- Liang took a 6-1 and 6-2 loss at No. 6.
