Banana Slugs Trounce Mount Mary To Advance to C2C Semifinal

MILWAUKEE, Wi. – The UC Santa Cruz women's basketball team earned a dominant 77-33 victory over Mount Mary in the 2025 C2C Women's Basketball Conference quarterfinal. With the victory, UC Santa Cruz advances to tomorrow's semifinal match against the top-seeded Christopher Newport Captains at 12:00 p.m. PST. Claire Galbo led the Slugs with 17 points, three assists, and three rebounds while Alyssa Jackson and Alexa Litchev chimed in for 16 points and 14 points. Litchev also recorded nine rebounds while Lindsay Zientek recorded a double double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
 
How It Happened
The Banana Slugs struck first and never looked back as Alexa Litchev scored the game's first basket to spark a stunning 26-2 run in the first quarter. Claire Galbo and Alyssa Jackson both led the charge in the opening 10 minutes as they both recorded eight points.
 
Mount Mary hit a jumper 15 seconds into the second quarter, but UC Santa Cruz surged forward, using a 19-6 run to go up by 35 points with a 45-10 lead just over two minutes before halftime. Mount Mary managed to score six unanswered points down the stretch, but it didn't do much damage as UCSC went into the halftime break with a 45-18 lead.
 
Out of the halftime break, the Slugs and Blue Angles battled through tight third quarter with UCSC outscoring Mount Mary 13-11, increasing their lead to 58-29 with just 10 minutes left in the contest.
 
UC Santa Cruz flew to the finish line in the fourth quarter as Lia Papador got the scoring started with a jumper before Emilie Ngo, Claire Galbo, Lindsay Zientek, and Danielle Tyner all recorded buckets down the stretch to take the 77-33 win over Mount Mary.
