
Banana Slugs Defeat Cal Maritime on Senior Night at KP Arena

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. - The UC Santa Cruz women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day with a dominant 92-59 victory over Cal Maritime on Saturday afternoon at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Bria Tate led the way with 21 points while Danielle Tyner added 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Alyssa Jackson chipped in 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc, and Sarah Reuter recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Banana Slugs improve to 11-11 on the season.
How It Happened
Bria Tate got the Banana Slugs going with back-to-back layups in the first quarter, and Emilie Ngo added a layup to give UCSC an 8-6 lead. Alanis Sulivan contributed a pair of layups while Alyssa Jackson drilled a three-pointer to keep the Slugs in the mix. Ngo converted a pair of free throws and Suraya Lloyd added one from the charity stripe, but UCSC trailed 13-17 after the first quarter.
The Banana Slugs seized control in the second quarter. Tate opened the period with a layup and added a pair of free throws to tie the game at 23-23. Danielle Tyner converted a layup assisted by Jackson, and Sarah Reuter hit a jumper to push the lead to 27-23. Lia Papador knocked down a three-pointer assisted by Ngo, and Sulivan added another three. Ngo hit a jumper and Tyner scored on a jumper of his own as UCSC took a 36-30 lead into the break.
UCSC came out strong in the third quarter, blowing the game open. Tyner scored the first four points of the half on back-to-back layups, including a steal-and-score. Reuter added a layup assisted by Ngo, and Katie Busch knocked down a three-pointer assisted by Jackson. Tyner continued to dominate with a pair of jumpers while Jackson drilled back-to-back three-pointers. Tate poured in four points and added a free throw, and Ngo capped the quarter with a layup as the Banana Slugs carried a commanding 64-39 lead into the fourth.

Jackson drilled two more three-pointers to push the lead past 30, and Ngo hit a three-pointer assisted by Tate.
