CHAMPS! UCSC Men's Track and Field Team Claims Program's First C2C Indoor Title

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The UC Santa Cruz men's track and field team claimed their first-ever Coast-To-Coast Indoor Track and Field Championships with 154 team points, defeating Salisbury by 13 points en route to the victory. The women's track and field team narrowly finished as the runner up with 158 points with CNU finishing in first with 165 points. Both team's showed great strength and resilience on Day Two of the Championships with both teams winning four events to highlight the day.
 
Men's Highlights
  • Mile: The Banana Slugs stormed through the mile, finishing 1-2-3 as Eric Anderson led the charge, setting a new C2C meet record with a time of 4:14.01 to win the event with Graeme Maclean taking second in 4:19.68. Camden Jaureguy rounded out the top three with a 4:20.78 for the bronze medal finish.
  • 60m Hurdles: Sotirios Kougiouris turned in an 8.90 second race to finish as the runner up.
  • 400m: Levi Laden and Evan Hofstetter took second and third in the 400m, running 49.97s and 50.05s.
  • 60m: Arthur Gainant earned the C2C Championship title in the 60m, crossing the line in 6.98 seconds.
  • 800m: Eric Anderson picked up his second victory of the day, turning in a 1:54.50 to secure gold with Aaron Hillberg taking fourth in 1:57.25.
  • 200m: Arthur Gainant took third overall in the 200m, running a 23.02 second race.
  • 3000m: Luke Holland earned his second win of the meet as he turned in an 8:39.37 in the 3k for the victory with Graeme Maclean taking second in 8:45.18. Sasha Tanasychuk also finished in the top six, running an 8:47.34 to take fifth place.
  • Triple Jump: Evan Hofstetter took fourth in the triple jump with a 13.24m jump.
  • 4x400m Relay: The Slugs closed out the Championships with a second place finish in the 4x400m relay as Evan Hofstetter, Aaron Hillberg, Shiven Karnik, and Levi Laden combined for a time of 3:24.72.
 
Women's Highlights
  •  Mile: The Banana Slugs dominated the mile, going 1-2-3-4 with Elena Stanciu finishing in first with a 5:02.09 while Kenzie Seymour and Hanna Hekkanen taking second and third in 5:03.08 and 5:05.54 with all three runners breaking the previous C2C meet record. Sara Teitelbaum took fourth overall with a time of 5:17.84.
  • 60m Hurdles: Isha Kasanagottu took fourth overall with a time of 9.95s.
  • 400m: Caitlin Donovan and Mae Stanford took fourth and fifth overall, running 1:00.77 and 1:02.43.
  • 60m: Amaya Cummins took third overall with a time of 7.84 seconds with Camille Anneet taking fifth overall with a time of 8.00s.
  • 800m: The Slugs had another strong, finishing 1-2-4-6 with Hanna Hekkanen and Elena Stanciu taking the top two spots in 2:22.08 and 2:22.48. Lucia Muthi took fourth with a time of 2:23.10 while Evelyn Ruckmann-Barnes took sixth in 2:26.41.
  • 200m: Amaya Cummins and Camille Anneet took sixth and seventh in the 200m with times of 27.08s and 27.10.
  • 3000m: The Slugs swept the 3k with Helena Janku, Kenzie Seymour, and Jordan Baden going 1-2-3. Janku earned the Championship title in record fashion, breaking the C2C Indoor Record and the C2C meet record with a time of 10:05.50. Seymour also broke both records, crossing the line in 10:05.82. Baden crossed the line in 10:15.96 to complete the sweep.
  • High Jump: Celine Castaneda took first overall with a 1.60m jump with Eliza Zheng taking second with a 1.54m jump. Isha Kasanagottu took sixth after a 1.42m clearance.
  • Shot Put: Whitney Porter earned a podium finish in the shot put, taking third place after a 10.07m throw.
  • Pole Vault: Allyson Petersen took fourth in the pole vault, jumping 2.79m.
  • 4x400m Relay: Mae Stafford, Amaya Cummins, Lucia Muthu, and Caitlin Donovan combined for a third place time of 4:15.27.
