Banana Slugs Surge to No. 25 With Strong Showing in Fall Season

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz women’s golf team wrapped up the fall segment of their 2025-26 season ranked No. 25 in the country following a strong showing in their four fall tournaments to kick off the year. UC Santa Cruz saw their highest finish come at the Orange and Black Tournament hosted by Lewis and Clark as the Banana Slugs earned a first place team finish, shooting +53 as a team while sweeping the podium with the top three finishers in Adeline Truong, Samantha Shaw, and Jiya Dalal. The Banana Slugs also hosted the inaugural Hollins Cup at the Pasatiempo Golf Club this past weekend, bringing in top teams from all over the country to compete in a two day tournament at the prestigious course, honoring Marion Hollins and her work that paved the way for female golfers all over the world.

The UC Santa Cruz lined up features three golfers ranked in the top 150 individuals in the country with Samantha Shaw leading the way at No. 107 while Adeline Truong and Olivia Lew sit at No. 110 and No. 135 overall. After UCSC’s eight rounds so far this fall, they rank 25th in the country and 4th in their region. Their most impactful tournament for rankings was their Orange and Black Invitational with the CA State Intercollegiate also providing a boost to their rank.
 
NCAA Division III Preview
The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs shot +49 as a team at the NCAA Preview, taking 12th out of 15 teams overall, going +28 on day one and +21 on day two. Adeline Truong led the way for UCSC, shooting 74 and 76 for a +6 on the weekend, carding four birdies between the two rounds with three on day two. Truong’s performance landed her a 27th place finish among a stacked field that included Carnegie Mellon, Emory, NYU, Pomona-Pitzer, Randolph-Macon, and WashU. Olivia Lew and Maya London also performed well at the NCAA Preview with Lew taking 63rd following rounds of 81 and 77 while London took 72 with an 85 and 77.
 
CA State Intercollegiate
The Banana Slugs narrowly fished in second place at the CA State Intercollegiate, just two days after the NCAA Division III Preview, recording a +16 across the two days but a near perfect +3 on day two. Samantha Shaw and Maya London were the standout performers for UCSC in this tournament as the duo tied for third with Shaw shooting a 77 on day one and a 69 on day two with five birdies to close out the competition, jumping 17 places on day two. London shot 75 on day one with two birdies and followed it up with a 71, recording five birdies to end in a tie with Shaw. Olivia Lew also had an impressive showing, going 73-74 in the two day competition with eight birdies overall.
 
Orange and Black Invitational
UC Santa Cruz picked up their first win of the year as they shot +24 and +29 as a team, beat Pacific (Ore.) by 32 strokes at the Tualatin Country Club. Adeline Truong was UC Santa Cruz’s top performer, earning the individual victory with back to back 77’s, carding four birdies on day one and an eagle on the 276 par 4 second hole on day two. Samantha Shaw and Jiya Dalal took second and third behind Truong to sweep the podium, shooting +11 and +14, respectively, across the two days. Maya London and Shelly Areepitak followed closely behind with the duo taking fifth and sixth, going +16 and +18 overall. Olivia Lew wrapped up competition for UCSC, taking ninth overall with a +21, putting all six golfers in the top 10 individually.

The Hollins Cup
UC Santa Cruz wrapped up their fall competition with a seventh place finish in the inaugural Hollins Cup, shooting +96 overall in the two day competition. UCSC also featured a B team that took eighth in the competition, shooting +131. Jiya Dalal was UCSC’s top performer, finishing in a tie for 20th with a +8 on day one and a +11 on day two. Samantha Shaw finished closely behind, going +20 on the weekend to finish in a tie for 22nd. Adeline Truong shot +24 with a +8 on day two, earning her a tie for 31st overall. Notably, Jiya Dalal was the sixth best performer on par 3’s on the weekend, averaging 3.20 strokes while Olivia Lew tied for seventh in the field with a 3.30 average.
