UC Santa Cruz Women's Tennis spent the Friday at Siena House volunteering in their week off from competition.
Head coach
Ross Pytko explains "It's important to me as the leader of the Women's Tennis Program at UC Santa Cruz to instill upon our student-athletes how crucial it is to get out into the community to volunteer our time. I want to thank our Assistant Coach,
Linda Turkstra, for connecting us with Siena House. The fact that the organization specifically benefits mothers and babies in our community struggling to meet their basic survival needs makes it the perfect organization for our team to support."
The team's day at Siena House coincided with National Volunteer Week. "I am proud of our team for stepping up and donating their time to clear an entire room that will be used to add a bed for a new mother and newborn in the Santa Cruz community," Pytko continued. "We were able to give back to the community, further build on our own team bond, and increase visibility for the program. It was a truly great day for everyone, and we all look forward to volunteering at Siena House in the future."
Junior
Jolie Seemayer reflected a similar sentiment. "When we showed up we cleared out a room that was previously being used for storage so they could house another mom and her baby'" she said. "It was so much fun giving back to the community, and it was great to know that we were helping new moms and their kids."
