Banana Slugs compete well at Aggie Open

DAVIS, CA – A full Banana Slug team on both the men's and women's side competed at the 2024 Aggie Open at UC Davis's famed Woody Wilson Track.

In the discus throw, Whitney Porter was 22nd with a distance of 26.56m (87 ft. 1 in.) and Kailey Leba was 26th in 21.21m (69 ft. 7 in.). Isha Kasanagottu was 12th in the 100 hurdles in 18.15, with Mackenzie Jones 13th in 19.34.
A pair of first years led UC Santa Cruz in the 100m. Aditi Kamble and Akira Jones were 18th and 21st respectively. Kamble ran a 13.31 with Jones crossing in 13.54. In the 200m, school record holder Amaya Cummins was third in 26.02. Mae Stafford was 19th in 28.01, and Sophie Jimenez was 23rd in 28.27. The 4x400 relay of Jimenez, Cummins, Stafford and Alicia Dasalla placed fifth in 4:13.58.

For the men, highlights saw Sotirios Kougiouris finish sixth in the 110m hurdles in 16.37, with Soujit Ing placing ninth in 18.56. Jack Kibort was 15th in the 100m dash in 11.47. Kougiouris was 21st in 11.74 and Tyler Vo was 22nd 0.02 seconds later. Brett Bailey was 12th in the 800m in 1:57.52 and Joseph Montag was 36th in 2:04.41. The 4x400 relay of Rowan Davis, James Contini, Ing and Kougiouris finished in sixth place in a time of 3:30.93.

The Banana Slugs return to the area in one week when they take part in the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State.
