
Banana Slugs finish strong at 2024 Fanelli Classic

HAYWARD, CA – Day two of the Mark Fanelli Distance Classic at Chabot College saw strong performances all across the board for the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.

Erik Dodge started off the day strong, placing 3rd in the men's pole vault event with a PR of 4.35m (14Â ft. 3.25 in). The Banana Slugs placed well on both the men's and women's side of the distance medley, the Distance Classic's signature event. Frieda Cedillo, Faith Dyogi, Marianne Chuang, and Hanna Hekkanen placed 8th overall in the women's distance medley with a time of 12:28.03. Camden Hebert, Max Kirkhope, Michael Masotti, and Holden Spencer placed 6th overall in the men's distance medley with a time of 10:37.20.Â
Bentham Vu and Nathaniel Chang both had PR times in the 10,000m that put them in the top 10 all-time at UC Santa Cruz. Vu finished in 32:19.51 and Chang had a time of 32:52.47. Kenzie Seymour placed 6th in her heat for the women's 800m event with a time of 2:23.63. Eric Anderson, Marcus Fehlman, and Joey Montag all placed 5th in their respective heats of the men's 800m event with a time of 1:52.01 for Anderson, 2:00.89 for Fehlman, and 2:00.02 for Montag.
