Banana Slugs set PRs as indoor season winds up

WAVERLY, IA -- The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs' ended the Wartburg NCAA Indoor Qualifier strong with many personal records.

For the women's 1 mile, Hanna Hekkanen and Elena Stanciu both got new personal records (PR). Hekkanen got a new time of 5:03.93 placing in 9th while Stanciu got a new time of 5:10.24 placing in 14th. Hekkanen's previous record was at the 2022 C2C Championships and Stanciu's last record was in 2024 at the University of Portland Indoor Meet.

For the women's 400-meter dash, Caitlin Donovan got a new personal and school record by placing 8th with a time of 1:00.47. Their record was set previously at Christopher Newport during the 2024 C2C Championships.

For the men's 1 mile, Eric Anderson got a new personal record with a time of 4:11.13 getting 1st place. Their last record was at the University of Portland Indoor Meet in 2023.

For the men's 3000-meter run, Eric Jackson got a new personal record with a time of 8:18.23 placing 2nd. Their last record was at Christopher Newport during the 2024 C2C Championship.

Other standouts included:

Riley Martel-Phillips got 16th place with a time of 5:12.00 and Kenzie Seymour got 19th place with a time of 5:16.46 in the women's 1 mile.
Holden Spencer got a time of 4:20.75, placing 17th in the men's 1 mile.
In the men's 800-meter run, Aaron Hillberg got a time of 1:54.37 placing 3rd.
In the men's 400-meter dash, Levi Laden placed 4th with a time of 50.59.
In the women's 3000-meter run, Helena Janku placed 4th with a time of 10:11.47. Luke Holland got a time of 8:49.91 to place 16th in the men's 3000-meter run.

The Banana Slugs will find out Sunday if they have another outing to Virginia Beach Sports Center for the NCAA Division 3 Indoor Champions next weekend.
