
Banana Slugs Shines at Kiim Duyst and Wartburg Final Qualifier

TURLOCK, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Cal State Stanislaus for the Kim Duyst Invitational on March 6-7, picking up strong performances across the board. UC Santa Cruz also sent a small group of athletes to the Wartburg Final Qualifier at Wartburg College on March 6-7, highlighted by freshman Nia Kim setting a new program record in the pentathlon and junior Elena Stanciu taking first in the mile. The Slugs efforts landed some last chance magic as Nia Kim, Elena Stanciu, and Caedan Gardner all earned spots at the NCAA Championships with their final push, joining Evan Hofstetter in Alabama for the Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Women's Results:
- 200 Meters: Camille Anneet led the Banana Slugs with a ninth-place finish in 25.96. Kalee Herd (27.04), Mae Stafford (27.11), Sandrine Martinez (27.49), and Varsha Aravindhan (27.70) rounded out the group.
- 100 Meters: Kalee Herd finished 20th in 13.23. Allyson Petersen ran a 14.04.
- 400 Meters: Esther Kim placed seventh in 1:03.00, followed by Mira Sidhu (1:04.14) and Alicia Dasalla (1:06.45).
- 800 Meters: Jordan Robinson finished sixth in 2:19.28. Evelyn Ruckmann-Barnes posted a 2:23.59.
- 1500 Meters: Fiona Wolf led the group in 12th at 4:57.98. Cheryl Chuang (5:02.17), Hope Martin (5:02.55), Emma Wirz (5:09.58), Marianne Chuang (5:12.64), and Holly Alchin (5:14.45) rounded out the group.
- 5000 Meters: Meeran Gill placed sixth in 19:09.94. Madison Lorenz ran a 20:09.10.
- 100 Hurdles: Olivia Marino finished 14th in 16.37. Eliza Zheng posted a 17.87.
- 4x400 Relay: The A squad of Holly Alchin, Camille Anneet, Varsha Aravindhan, and Mae Stafford took first place in 4:06.41. The B squad of Alicia Dasalla, Esther Kim, Sandrine Martinez, and Marianne Chuang placed third in 4:14.03.
- High Jump: Celine Castaneda and Olivia Marino each cleared 1.50m (4-11) to finish fifth and seventh. Eliza Zheng matched that mark for seventh. Regan Mulloy cleared 1.45m (4-9) for 10th.
- Pole Vault: Allyson Petersen cleared 2.90m (9-6.25) for third place.
- Triple Jump: Regan Mulloy finished fourth with a mark of 10.52m (34-6.25). Celine Castaneda was right behind in fifth at 10.50m (34-5.5).
- Shot Put: Semalu Hernandez placed 11th with a mark of 9.78m (32-1). Fiona Wolf threw 8.62m and Kailey Leba threw 8.52m.
- Discus: Whitney Porter led the group in seventh at 32.92m (108-0). Semalu Hernandez threw 30.52m and Kailey Leba threw 24.59m.
- Hammer: Kailey Leba finished 13th at 34.22m (112-3). Whitney Porter threw 29.48m.
- Javelin: Kailey Leba placed fourth with a mark of 34.02m (111-7).
- 100 Meters: Tyler Vo finished 31st in 11.46.
- 200 Meters: Tyler Vo placed 23rd in 23.28. Erik Dodge ran a 23.67.
- 400 Meters: Shiv Mohan placed second in 48.87.
- 800 Meters: Taran Grewal finished ninth in 1:59.12. Matthew Riffle (2:00.17), Caleb Kipp (2:01.59), and Joey Montag (2:04.32) rounded out the group.
- 1500 Meters: Andrew Mysliwiec placed third in 4:01.68. Eduardo Palma finished seventh in 4:05.13 and Gilbert Fillat finished eighth in 4:06.57. Kelvin Chan (4:18.86) and Ian Lee (4:22.57) rounded out the group.
- 5000 Meters: Diego Vizcarra finished ninth in 15:17.62. Alex Wille (15:58.83), Sammy Green (16:10.84), and Liam Manley (16:38.29) rounded out the group.
- 110 Hurdles: Erik Dodge placed fifth in 15.76. Shriyan Manjrekar ran a 17.20 and Ricky Murray ran a 17.50.
- 4x400 Relay: The team of Taran Grewal, Shriyan Manjrekar, Matthew Riffle, and Ricky Murray finished seventh in 3:28.22.
- High Jump: Oliver Berkowitz cleared 1.85m (6-0.75) for seventh. Jack Richards cleared 1.75m (5-8.75) for eighth.
- Long Jump: Jack Richards posted a mark of 6.15m (20-2.25) for 13th. Oliver Berkowitz jumped 5.64m.
- Shot Put: Chris Andrews placed 10th with a mark of 12.44m (40-9.75). Jeremy Hall threw 10.06m and Jameson Powell threw 9.83m.
- Discus: Jameson Powell finished 17th at 37.19m (122-0). Chris Andrews threw 37.09m and Jeremy Hall threw 26.21m.
Wartburg Final Qualifier
Women's Results:
- Pentathlon: Nia Kim finished second with a program-record 3,534 points. Kim entered the weekend ranked 19th nationally and needed to improve her score to strengthen her case for a spot at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. The freshman came through, posting a performance that moved her back into the top ten in the country.
- 60 Hurdles: Nia Kim won the event in 8.81 seconds.
- Mile: Elena Stanciu took first with a time of 4:55.67.
- 800 Meters: Caeden Gardner placed second in 1:53.09. Sean Conley finished ninth in 1:54.42.
- Mile: Graeme Maclean placed sixth with a 4:12.47.
