Turlock, CA– UC Santa Cruz started the 2024 Outdoor Track and Field season by competing at the Stanislaus State Kim Duyst Invitational. The women finished 11th out of the 15 schools competing , while the men placed 13th. Despite struggling with the windy conditions, there were many Banana Slug debuts at a college-level meet.

Sprints/Hurdles
In the Women's 400-meter dash, Amaya Cummins placed 4th with a time of 1:00.93, a personal record and the fourth fastest time in school history. In the Women's 100-meter hurdles, Isha Kasanagottu got 8th place with a time of 17.99 and Mackenzie Jones got 9th place with a time of 18.35.

Relay
The Women's 4x400 Relay of Akira Jones, Aditi Kamble, Kayla Galvez, and Sophie Jimenez got a time of 4:23.84, to place 4th.

Middle Distance
In her first time running the event, Faith Dyogi placed 11th in the Women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.39. Camden Jaureguy also placed 11th with a time of 2:02.79 for the Men's 800-meter run. For the Women's 1500 meters, Dyogi got 5th place with a time of 4:53.89 and Frieda Cedillo set a new personal record with a time of 4:54.80, with their prior PR being at the 2023 Mike Fanelli Track Classic. For the Men's 1500, Viktor Kieturakis placed 7th with a time of 4:06.89 in his debut.

Distance
In the Women's 5000-meter run, Ryanne Reynolds had their debut and got 2nd place with a time of 18:52.75. For the Men's 5000-meter run, Raymond Ingersoll got 6th place with a new personal record of 14:53.01 getting, Nathaniel Chang got a time of 15:46.97 getting a new personal record, and Nick Sciole got a time of 16:00.34 also getting a new personal record.

Field Events
First Year Kailey Leba had their debut in the Women's Hammer Throw and the Women's Discus Throw. Leba placed 15th in the Hammer Throw with a throw 21.61m (70 ft. 10 in.) and 18th in the Discus with 18.91m (62 ft. 0.5 in). Whitney Porter contributed greatly, placing 13^th the Women's Hammer Throw with 24.08m (79 ft), 14^th in the Women's Shot Put with 8.14m (26 ft 8.5in), and was 14^th in the Discus Throw with 26.64m (87 ft 5in).

Jeremy Hall and Kyland Minyard made their debuts in the Men Discus Throw and Shot Put. Hall got 31.09m (102 ft.) in the Discus and 11.07m (36 ft. 4 in.) in the Shot Put. Minyard got 30.61m (100ft. 5 in.) in Discus and 9.75m (32 ft.) in the Shot Put.

The Banana Slugs will be in Davis next weekend for the Aggie Open at UC Davis.
