MONTEREY PARK– A pair of longstanding relay records and one individual school record were broken after UC Santa Cruz's first day of the 2024 Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships.Â
For the women's team, the 800 Free Relay quartet of Maddy Gruender, Coralie Norenberg, Kirsten Boyle and Tereza Shea won the PCSC title in a school-record time of 7:34.12. The time beat rivals CSU East Bay by 0.10 seconds and defending champ Azusa Pacific by 0.28 seconds.
The time was six seconds faster than the school record that had stood since 2009 and puts the Banana Slugs into NCAA Championship consideration. Gruender's leadoff leg of 1:50.70 bettered her own school record by 0.75 seconds.
