ATHERTON, Ca. – On Tuesday afternoon, the UC Santa Cruz women's basketball team battled until the final whistle but fell 75-66 to Menlo College. Despite leading at halftime, UCSC couldn't hold off a strong second-half surge by the Oaks.

How It Happened
The Banana Slugs started strong, shooting 50% from the field in the first quarter and taking a 19-17 lead. They extended their advantage to 31-21 in the second quarter, their largest lead of the game, fueled by dominant performances from Alexa Litchev and Ariel Anderson. Menlo chipped away at the lead, narrowing the deficit to 37-32 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Oaks regained momentum, outscoring UCSC 19-13 and tying the game multiple times. Menlo took control in the fourth quarter with a 24-point effort, pulling away late despite UCSC's relentless defense and critical baskets from Anderson and Litchev.

Litchev stood out for UCSC, finishing with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while Anderson added 17 points and nine rebounds. Alyssa Jackson also contributed 13 points, including four three-pointers, to keep UCSC competitive. UCSC shot an efficient 47.3% from the field and dominated the boards with 45 rebounds compared to Menlo's 35. However, the Oaks' ability to capitalize on turnovers and clutch free-throw shooting proved decisive in the final minutes.

The Banana Slugs look to regroup as they prepare for their next matchup against Chapman on Saturday, November 30th. Tip-off is set for 3:30 PM at West Field House.
