
Ferrara-Jones Drops 32 as Slugs Defeat Bruins on Monday Afternoon

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's basketball team earned a 95-87 victory over George Fox on Monday afternoon to improve to 2-1 on the season. The Slugs were led by Andrew Ferrara-Jones who recorded 32 points in the contest while Zino Okah recorded 17. The Slugs will stay in Santa Cruz for their next contest when they host Pomona-Pitzer on Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the West Field House.

How It Happened
UC Santa Cruz controlled the action early in the contest as they started the game on a 12-4 which included a 5-0 start against George Fox. The run saw six points from Joseph Espy along with three from Andrew Ferrara-Jones with Caden Breznikar and Ian McCloskey contributing as well.

George Fox responded well, using a 14-4 run to take the lead at 18-16 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The Slugs were able to counter, pushing back in front to a 26-24 advantage, outscoring the Bruins 10-6 with five points from Zach Granberry while McCloskey and Espy made up the other five.

UC Santa Cruz and the Bruins kept pace with each other with Zino Okah hitting a three with 3:50 left in the first to put the Slugs up 33-30. The three sparked the offense for UCSC as an 8-3 run followed with Andrew Ferrara-Jones recording six points to help put the Slugs up 41-33 down the stretch of the first half. George Fox recorded the last two points of the half with two made free throws, but the Slugs had a breakaway opportunity to end the half and couldn't capitalize, sending UCSC into the break leading 41-35.

The Bruins struck first out of the halftime break but the action was back and forth with UC Santa Cruz holding a slight 19-18 advantage as they worked to a 60-53 lead led by Ferrara-Jones as he recorded 11 points in that stretch. George Fox managed to erase the gap with an 8-1 and tie the contest at 61-61 with 10:43 remaining in the half.

The run was brought to an end with a three-pointer from George Fox, closing the gap to six points at 83-77 with 3:54 remaining in regulation.
