Wissler qualifies for Nationals

WAVERLY, IOWA– Shea Wissler earned one more airplane ride this spring.
The senior qualified for the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships with a first-place finish in the Heptathlon at the Midwest Qualifier hosted by Wartburg. His total of 4,801 points not only improved his school-record, but put him 14th in the country to qualify for Nationals next week in Birmingham, Alabama.

Wissler finished the day strong with first place showing in the Pole Vault (4.25m/13 ft. 11.25 inches) and a dead-heat for first in the 60m hurdles in 8.71. Drew Koesel finished seventh with 3,747 points in his first Heptathlon.

Other Banana Slug standouts at the last Indoor Meet of the season-

Chloe Solomua finished fifth in the Pentathlon with 2,795 points. She closed the five-event competition with a PR in the 800m of 2:37.42. She then lowered her school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.21.
Ash Baudin and Riley Martel-Phillips continued their 1-2 punch in the Indoor Mile as the duo again scored PRs. Baudin locked up All Region status, placing 8th in a school-record 5:00.33. Martel-Phillips finished in 5:08.31, three seconds better than her time at the C2C Conference meet.
Eric Anderson improved his school-record in the 800m with a time of 1:53.48, placing fifth. He also sewed up All Region honors in the event for the second year in a row.
Oliver Chang was 10th in the 3000m in 9:14.36.
