Track and Field opens outdoor season in Turlock

TURLOCK (3-4)- UC Santa Cruz started the Outdoor season by competing at the Stanislaus State Kim Duyst Invitational Track and Field meet. The Slugs competed at Turlock to receive 9th place out of the 14 schools with 36 points.

Monica Fonseca helped the Slugs with points by placing in 7th place in the 5000 meters with a PR of 19:20.08, and Brett Bailey also placing in 8th place for the 5000 meter with a time of 15:03.49.

Hanna Hekkanen placed second in the final Women's 800 meters with a time of 2:23.90, with Helena Janku receiving 4th place with a time of 2:24.95.
Aaron Hillberg (1:57.38) placed 4th and Raymond Ingersoll (1:59.83) placed 5th in the Men's 800 meter dash.

For the Women's 4x400, Caitlin Donovan, Arabela Edler, Kayla Galvez, and Mackenzie Jones all placed 4th with a time of 4:15.77. For the Men's 4x400, Vance Byer, Hillberg, Carson Nagel, and Jonathan Stenger placed 7th with a time of 3:30.94.

Other standouts included:

Andrea Gallardo received 10th place in the Women's 800 meter dash with a time of 2:28.95.
Mackenzie Jones was 11th in the 100 hurdles in a wind-aided 17.85.
Donovan received 11th place in the Women's 200 with a time of 26.83.
Ethan Bizzack received 8th place out of 70 competitors in the Men's 200 meter with a time of 22.78.

The Banana Slugs will have another outing against top competition in two weeks when they compete in the Cardinal Classic at Stanford University.
