Middle distancers run well at Bryan Clay Invite

AZUSA - Three UC Santa Cruz runners competed Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific. All three competed in the 800m race, with two of them running their best times ever.
For the men, freshmen Eric Anderson and Holden Spencer performed well against a national field.
Anderson, the school record holder, finished in 1:51.63. It was his second sub-1:52 race of the year. He placed 2nd in his heat, and beat four Div. I runners.
Holden was third in his heat in a new PR of 1:53.66, which was 0.79 seconds better than his previous best time.
In the women's race, junior Hana Yamamoto hit a new PR of 2:16.28 while placing third in her heat. She improved her previous best time by 2.2 seconds from two weeks ago, and now ranks among the top five in the West Region. Overall, the Banana Slugs were three of the over 4,000 athletes competing in one of the most prestigious track events in the nation.
The Banana Slugs continue their week as the rest of the team competes Friday and Saturday at the Johnny Mathis Invitational in San Francisco.
