
Several PRs set as Banana Slugs compete at East Bay Invitational

HAYWARD-Â UC Santa Cruz Track and Field had a productive weekend at the East Bay Invitational. As the Banana slugs continued building towards the second half of the season, they got to use their depth as a dozen different athletes competed in some events as a team.
School record holder Abby McPhillips won her first outdoor High Jump of the year, clearing 1.60 m (5ft 3in). Izzy Laspina had PRs in both the High Jump (1.45m/4ft 9in) and the 200m (29.57). Amelia Tremain was 7th in the 100m dash in 13.52 and 2nd in the 100 hurdles in 17.23. School record holder Zoe Johnson was sixth in the 200m in 27.86. Caitlin Donovan was 3rd in the 400m with a PR of 1:03.09, while Ria Saini was 5th in 1:04.13. Lauren Delgado's PR of 2:26.58 led the pack of six Banana Slugs in the 800m with a fifth-place finish.
For the men, highlights included freshman Jack Kibort turning in PRs in both the 100m (11.59) and 200m (23.44). Adam Goldberg won the 800m in 1:58.77, and Efrem Blitz's PR led six Banana Slugs in the 1500m with a 6th place finish in 4:10.11. Ryan Wright was 8th with a PR of 4:13.20.
The full squad will be in action next weekend at the Johnny Mathis Invite hosted by San Francisco State.
