Two dozen total PRs set by Banana Slugs at Hornet Invitational.
SACRAMENTO - Eric Anderson set a new school record and a slew of other PRs were made as UC Santa Cruz had a big day out at the Sacramento State Hornet Invite on Saturday.
"I'm really proud of how are team competed today," said Head Coach David Klech. "Coming off of Finals everyone is a little depleted, so you don't know how sharp everyone is going to be. Our goal was to compete."
Running against Division I and II athletes, Anderson placed 3rd overall in 1:51.51 in his first college outdoor 800. The record was 5.25 seconds faster than the old record set in 2017 by Raymond Breault and the top Division III mark so far this season. Aaron Hillberg was in 11th in 1:55.15, which is now the second-fastest time in school history.
Overall, 22 personal records were made by the young Banana Slug squad. James Contini ran a wind-aided 10.88 in the 100 meter dash. Raymond Ingersoll was 9th in the 1500m in 4:00.56, the 5th fastest time in school history. In the women's 1500, Elana Muzzy was fifth in 4:43.55. Riley Martel-Phillips was eighth with a PR of 4:47.39. Lauren Delgado had a PR of 5:08.97 to finish 21st. Amaya Cummins had a pair of Top-Five women's times.  She ran 12.65 in the 100m, the second-fastest time ever by a Banana Slug. Her time of 26.79 in the 200 meters was third-fastest in school history.
"We set two new School Record with James getting under 11.00 seconds in the 100m for the first time and Eric Anderson was truly special in his 800m, running the fastest time in the country," Klech continued. "Our 1500m crew had a good day, we had some strong showings in the 200m, and I thought our 4x400 Relays did an unbelievable job at the end of a long day in some drizzle."
The Banana Slugs next run in two weeks when they compete at the Mike Fanelli Distance Carnival hosted by San Francisco State.
