Banana Slugs Score Four in Second Half in 6-1 Win over Keelhaulers

VALLEJO (10-2) – UC Santa Cruz traveled to Vallejo take on NAIA opponent CSU Maritime Academy for the first time since 1996. Five different Banana Slugs scored as the Banana Slugs won 6-1.

The win marked the third in a row for UCSC (4-6).

In the first half, the Keelhaulers would have the first opportunity to score. With 31:35 left, the Keelhaulers had a penalty kick from Jeremi Rousson, but the shot was saved by Gerald Delorie.  Dominique Royall scored a goal off assists by Lukas Holocher and Jacob Myers Norys with 13:58 left in the half to give the Banana Slugs a 1-0 lead. The Banana Slugs would score again with 3:35 left in the half on a Lucas Donoso goal off an assist by Mathias Cien-Mayer to lead 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Banana Slugs would get on the scoreboard early. With 30:35 left, Ari Sidman scored off an assist by Royall to give the Banana Slugs a 3-0 lead. Just under a minute of clock time later, Aiden Durgerian scored to give the Banana Slugs a 4-0 lead. Royall scored again with 21:33 left to give the Banana Slugs a 5-0 lead. The Keelhaulers would trim the lead to 5-1, with 13:11 left, on an Ezra Dickens goal off a Jeremi Rousson assist. The Banana Slugs added their final tally with 10:27 left on a Myers Norys goal.

Royall had a match-high eight shots to lead the Banana Slugs while for CSU Maritime, Rousson had five shots. Delorie got the win for the Banana Slugs and David Henderson got the loss for the Keelhaulers. The Banana Slugs had twenty-four more shots (35-11) than did the Keelhaulers. The thirty-five shots was the most for the team since 2006 and the six goals was the most since a 6-2 win over Cal Lutheran on Halloween 2010.

The Banana Slugs will travel to Southern California to take on University of Redlands Friday in Redlands. Game time is set for 7 pm.
