SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – After a strong 10-7-1 season, the Banana Slugs received four All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches, announced on Tuesday morning.
Soren Groessl,
Michael Braun,
Jackson Chandler, and
Lawyer Mamaril were selected to the 2025 All-Region teams with all four student-athletes receiving the honors for the first time in their career. Groessl and Braun led the way with Second Team honors while Chandler and Mamaril received Third Team nods.
Groessl earned his Second Team honors as the team's leading scorer with eight goals, two assists, and 18 points on the year, appearing in all 18 games while making 14 starts for the Banana Slugs. Braun earned his Second Team honors as a defender who helped limit teams to 17 goals on the season with a 0.94 goals per game average. Additionally, Braun scored two goals and dished out three assists on the year to contribute on both sides of the pitch.
Chandler put together a solid season with three goals and three assists while patrolling the midfield, serving as an instrumental player for the Slugs to earn his Third Team honors. Chandler appeared in 18 games, making 17 starts, while working at as a catalyst to motivate the team both on and off the field in his leadership role. Joining Chandler on the Third Team was
Lawyer Mamaril, another senior captain, who anchored the team's defense with 18 starts, playing 1519 minutes which ranked second only to the Banana Slugs' keeper. Mamaril provided key defensive pressure to limit teams to under a goal per game on the year while helping UCSC record seven shutouts.
