UC Santa Cruz's Department of Athletics and Recreation has hired Tanner Hata as the Assistant Athletic Trainer.
Tanner joins UC Santa Cruz from Cypress College in southern California, where he worked with athletes from six sports. While also working at Cypress College, he supervised soccer games, worked at the Sports Conditioning and Rehabilitation Clinic (SCAR PT Clinic), and spearheaded on-field evaluations.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Medical Anthropology and Global Health at the University of Washington where he was a student Athletic Trainer and Research Assistant.
He then soon earned his Master of Science in Athletic Training from Cal State Fullerton, where he was an assistant Athletic Trainer for Soccer and Track and Field. He helped develop CSU Fullerton’s rehabilitation protocols for upper and lower extremity injuries. He also introduced their action plan for COVID-19 contact tracing.
Hata received several certifications from the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) and the American Red Cross BLS certification.
