
No. 7 UCSC Sweeps No. 14 Wentworth at Cal Lu Fornia Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS, Ca. – No. 7 UC Santa Cruz men's volleyball earned a dominant 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-16) sweep over No. 14 Wentworth, improving to 12-2 on the year. The Banana Slugs' attack was stellar, hitting at a .441 clip on the match with AJ Contreras leading the team with 10 kills while Caio Valente dished out 13 assists. Contreras ended the day with a .571 hitting percentage. The Slugs return to the court on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to take on No. 13 Aurora University.

- Wentworth struck first and had the early edge at 5-4 but UC Santa Cruz surged with an 11-6 run that saw kills from Riley Norman, Nick Nayak, and Noy Fisher, putting UCSC ahead 15-11.
- Wentworth briefly pulled within two points at 17-15 but UCSC closed out set one on an 8-5 run, ending the set 25-20 with kills from Kyle Ownbey, Noy Fisher, and Caio Valente.
- Wentworth started set two with a service error but regrouped and found the early again once again, this time at 6-5. UCSC quickly rattled off six straight points with three kills from Norman and one from Fisher, putting UCSC ahead 11-6.
- The Banana Slugs continued to charge forward, working to a 15-7 lead thanks to two aces from Noy Fisher and another kill from Norman. Wentworth found their footing late as they outscored UCSC 12-10 down the stretch, but it was too late as AJ Contreras delivered the final kill to give the Slugs the 25-19 win and a 2-0 advantage in the match. - UC Santa Cruz got right to work in set three, jumping out to an early 6-2 lead before surging to an 18-6 advantage. The early charge saw kills from AJ Contreras, Nick Nayak, and Noy Fisher. Wentworth tried to fight back, using a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 19-10 but the Slugs continued to attack, working to a 22-10 lead.
- Wentworth's last effort featured a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to 24-16 but Noy Fisher delivered the final kills as the Banana Slugs took set three 25-16 to earn the 3-0 sweep.
