
UC Santa Cruz Sweeps Menlo on Saturday Evening

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The No. 9 UC Santa Cruz men's volleyball team improved to 8-1 on the year with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-18) victory over the Menlo College Oaks on Saturday night. AJ Contreras led the team with six kills on the evening with Logan Taylor dishing out 14 assists while Riley Norman picked up six digs. The Banana Slugs will be back in action on Feb. 13 at 5:00 p.m. PT when they travel to No. 2 Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

- The Banana Slugs controlled the pace early, working to a 10-6 lead and later a 20-11 advantage with kills from Riley Norman and Kyle Ownbey.
- The Oaks surged back into the first set, closing the gap to 21-18. The Slugs quickly used a 3-0 to go up 24-18 but Menlo fought back with six straight points to tie things at 24-24.
- Evan Erickson and Riley Norman both recorded kills to take the set 26-24.
- Set two found itself at 10-6 once again but remained tighter than set one as UCSC worked to an 18-12 advantage with AJ Conteras and Kyle Ownbey recording kills while Noy Fisher dished out an ace.
- UC Santa Cruz outscored Menlo 7-3 down the stretch to take the set 25-15 when James Audette ripping a hard hit service ace to cap off the set.
- Menlo managed to work to a 10-8 lead in set three, but UCSC responded with a 9-3 run to regain the lead at 17-13 before closing out the set on an 8-5 run to take set three 25-18 to secure the sweep.
