
Slugs Take Second at University of Portland to Open 2026 Season

PORTLAND, Or. – The UC Santa Cruz women's track and field team opened their 2026 indoor campaign at the University of Portland, taking second overall with 42 team points overall. The Banana Slugs earned runner up finishes in the mile and 4x400m relay and will be back in action February 6-8 at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nevada.

In the Results
Holly Alchin led the way for UCSC in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:27.19 with Hayden Flynn following narrowly behind in fourth with a time of 2:27.28. In the mile, the Slugs went 2-3-5-6 with Jordan Robinson leading the way in 5:20.25 with Sydney Boyd finishing the race in 5:20.53. Madelyn Basinet and Fiona Wolf crossed just seconds later with the duo going 5:22.19 and 5:24.43. The Slugs closed out the meet with a second place finish in the 4x400m relay as Alchin, Melody Chiu, Flynn, and Marianne Chuang combined for a time of 4:18.97.
