SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – On Sunday afternoon, the NCAA announced the official qualifiers for the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Rochester, New York, hosted by Nazareth University on March 14th and 15th. The meet will take place at the Golisano Training Center with a full schedule of events available here.
Among this year's qualifiers for the Championships are two UC Santa Cruz student-athletes with Eric Anderson and Elena Stanciu earning their spot in the indoor mile. Anderson returns to the big stage as the reigning National Runner Up in both the indoor mile as well as the outdoor 1500m. Anderson ran 4:08.95 at the Wartburg Last Chance Qualifier which stands as the sixth fastest entry but boasts a lifetime PR of 4:05.57 from last year's Indoor National Championship race. In addition to his silver medal finish at Indoor, Anderson finished as the National Runner Up in the Outdoor 1500m with a time of 3:51.93.
Stanciu will be making her first appearance at the NCAA National Championships following some last chance magic at the Wartburg Last Chance Qualifier this past weekend. Stanciu became the first Banana Slug to break the five minute barrier in the mile, running a time of 4:57.49 to earn a spot in the top 20 at this year's Championships. Prior to last weekend, Stanciu's had only raced this event twice this indoor season, with a personal best of 5:02.09 coming at the C2C Conference Championship meet where she took home the individual mile title. So far this season, Stanciu has dropped 6.87 seconds off her personal best in a span of three races giving her good momentum heading into the National Championship.
With Stanciu qualifying, this is the first time in history the Slugs will bring both a male and female student-athlete to the NCAA Track and Field National Championships.
