Slugs Perform Well at George Fox to Start 2025 Indoor Season

NEWBERG, OR. – The UC Santa Cruz men's and women's track and field teams put together strong performances at the George Fox University Indoor Open, setting personal bests and earning valuable results across multiple events. Competing against a deep field of competition, the Slugs showcased their speed, endurance, and technical skill with standout efforts in both track and field events. The team will now turn its attention to the University of Portland Indoor Meet #2 on Sunday, February 9th, where they look to build on their performances and continue their strong start to the indoor campaign.

Women's Meet Highlights

Women's 60m Dash

Amaya Cummins led the Slugs with a time of 7.90 seconds, finishing fifth overall. Camille Anneet followed with a personal best of 8.03 seconds, securing seventh place.

Women's High Jump

Celine Castaneda cleared 1.57m (5' 1.75"), setting a personal best and tying for sixth place. Eliza Zheng also recorded a personal best, clearing 1.47m (4' 9.75") to place 11th overall.

Women's Pole Vault

Allyson Petersen cleared 2.90m (9' 6.25"), securing a solid performance for the Slugs in the event.

Women's Shot Put

Whitney Porter recorded a throw of 8.69m (28' 6.25"), delivering a solid effort for the Slugs in the event.

Women's Long Jump

Simone Assaf recorded a personal best of 4.75m (15' 7"), finishing 10th overall. Akira Jones also set a personal best, jumping 4.17m (13' 8.25") to place 22nd for the Slugs.

Women's Weight Throw (20lb)

Whitney Porter recorded a throw of 7.05m (23' 1.75"), adding another solid effort for the Slugs in the field events.

Men's Meet Highlights

Men's 60m Dash

Arthur Gainant clocked a personal best of 7.01 seconds, securing a fourth-place finish for the Slugs in the event.

Men's 60m Hurdles

Sotirios Kougiouris set a personal best of 8.88 seconds, finishing fourth overall for the Slugs in the event.

Men's Shot Put

Jeremy Hall recorded a personal best of 10.35m (33' 11.5"), finishing 16th overall. Evan Hofstetter also set a personal best, throwing 9.43m (30' 11.25") to place 22nd for the Slugs.

Men's High Jump

Tetsuo Eng cleared 1.80m (5' 10.75"), securing a fourth-place finish for the Slugs in the event.

Men's Long Jump

James Contini led the Slugs with a jump of 6.39m (20' 11.75"), securing seventh place. Tyler Vo and Tetsuo Eng both recorded marks of 5.87m (19' 3.25"), tying for 20th place, with Vo setting a personal best in the event.
